Casual Friday: Relaxed Spring Color

Apr 10, 2026

Yesterday, I dressed for a casual work day at home followed by a drive to Montana — great jeans, a soft tee, a Varley zip up, cool sneakers. And, my Lord, was I hot.

By the second hour of the drive, even with the air conditioning blowing a soft breeze, I thought I might melt. Apparently, it’s already time for light separates. So here is a comfortable, casual work outfit made of pieces that won’t melt your face off when it’s only 60-degrees outside.

I bought this Madewell blouse in the soft blue. It is so pretty on with the eyelet trim and the pin tucks. But it runs big, even though it is supposed to be flowy. I bought the M originally, rough. Once I exchanged it for the small, the top went from being a tent from being cute and relaxed.

I wanted to a more interesting color palette for this outfit than denim would have supplied, so I chose these olive Mango pants. Also, I chose these pants because they were a little bit wide leg without being too oversized. A skinny pant would have made the weight of the outfit (the widest parts) live in the hips, making you a diamond shape. A straight leg or trouser leg is best, because a dramatic wide leg would just look big all over.

My thought process here was to keep the whole leg line continuous with an olive shoe. Madewell has these olive double strap sandals right now that are selling out everywhere, and those popped into my brain, but they’re only available in size 5 or 10. So instead, I chose these very cool sandals from Mango.

As for jewelry, I wanted a simple bangle bracelet here. Something to add a little bit of interest without overwhelming the whole look. These Ettika bracelets look gorgeous together or separately, are well-made, and can be worn with a variety of styles.
