The Jumble: January 22, 2026

Jan 22, 2026

On Monday, I woke up feeling under the weather. I snatched a COVID/Flu test from the bathroom and watched with revulsion as the line next to COVID quickly turned a bright pink. Delightful.

Here on the 89th day of January, in the year of our Lord 2026 as the world continues to spin madly on, being sick for the fifth time since October is just feeling like a little too much.

+ Moms, how much power are you willing to give up?

+ I’m at the age where I get excited about new bath mats

+ How to ‘fix’ your Instagram feed.

+ Tuckernuck is having a sample sale. I snagged this tennis sweater.

+ These creme brûlée cupcakes look divine.

+  J.Crew has the coolest Olympics collab.  I’m smitten with this puffer jacket.

+ How to spend less without trying.

+ Tatcha gives out special gifts with purchase in January, don’t miss yours.

+ Americans are warming to the German tradition of ‘house burping.’

+ I love this ‘cool Mom’ cardigan in the green and black stripe.

+ MTV took music videos off the air, a rogue website brought them back.

+ Boden’s new arrivals are killing it.  This striped knit jacket is perfect for spring.

+ She opened a bookshop; the best/worst thing she’d ever done.

+ BonBon is now making chocolate bars just in time for Valentine’s Day.  They taste like a better version of a Kit-Kat bar.  I still like their gummy candy best though.

Last year was the winter (and spring) of sicknesses for us. So far so good this year but I’m sure it’s coming for me. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!

I aggressively house burp when one of the kids gets sick. Usually once a day for 30 minutes in the warmest part of the day. Also, my anti-sickness witchcraft is the Reme Halo for your hvac system. Not sure if my 3 and 5 yos immune systems have matured, or it’s the Halo or the daily elderberry gummies, but we’re much less sick this year than the last 2 years. Good luck!

You had me at bath mats.

Indeed. The Boden Jackets are spectacular. I nabbed up the Ivory and Poppy. I was tempted by the Striped but already have so much blue….Fitted silhouettes are so chic no matter what is on trend.

As a mom with late-diagnosed adhd, the article on giving up power hits a little different. Especially when she talks about the emails and texts and other household admin stuff flowing through her…in my house that doesn’t happen. My executive function for that stuff is used up in my job. I don’t do it, so my husband has picked it up. He is arranging a birthday party at our house and I am involved primarily in the aesthetics (decorations, cake, craft projects)because I have an interest-based attention system that isn’t going to copy and paste other parents’ emails into an invitation, but can draw 15 mermaids. I’m not sharing this to brag, or suggest that “you just need to marry the right kind of man.” I’m sharing it because, in my marriage and in our parenting, the power vacuum that the author anticipates was there from the beginning. I never really picked up the admin power and my co-parent recognized that things needed to get done and does them. If I was able to concentrate 100% on parenting, I would probably do it differently. My children would be a little more well-kept, our house would be a little cleaner. That’s the cost, but its worth it for me and its also not possible for me to do it any other way.
