The Jumble: October 6, 2023

Oct 6, 2025

I went to sleep, and woke up with a sprained wrist. That is how old I am. I am can be life-alteringly injured while asleep. I can barely type. I can barely brush my teeth. But the real victim of this injury is Sloane, who had to go to school today with hair done by Daddy because I cried trying to twist those tiny little hair ties. Poor kid looks like she has morning-after bachelorette party bed head.

But don’t worry, I can get into the doctor on October 30th, which is their first “emergency” opening. Clearly that word doesn’t mean what I think it means. Depending on how bad the pain gets, maybe I’ll miss an entire day of work to go sit in a flu-infested Urgent Care.

Don’t grow up. It’s a trap.

Let’s Jumble.

Just fyi, the gingham top link goes to the Pigs In A Blanket recipe, and the corduroy pants link goes to the Sculpt Society page.

I started subscribing to Sculpt Society when I was pregnant with my second in 2023. I absolutely loved it (for a while). But then I found I was really straining my hits and couldn’t support my core and prevent the dreaded “coning” during pregnancy with a lot of the exercises, even though I was taking many geared toward pregnancy and postpartum. I still have a subscription two years later and have to say I don’t love it because SO many of the exercises do not feel good on my hips or it is way to hard as a nearly 40 year old woman to not completely strain my neck and shoulders and support my core. Like 90% of the moves are doing work on all fours either one elbow on ground and supporting yourself on your hand on the other side. Idk if that makes sense. Anyways, I’m in a FB group with other users who must be more athletic and gifted because they aren’t fearing injury with every other move like me.

The cherry cola Kur nail polish is so pretty in person!

I wanted to like sculpt society but it wasn’t for me, a lot of weird moves that I felt like I wasn’t doing correctly. I liked Amanda Blauer pilates – her cues are easy to follow, but lately having been doing a lot of essentrics for low impact that makes me feel good/seems to be working. I feel stretched and like I’ve done something without overly taxed.

  5. Dana says:

I had a Sculpt Society subscription for several years. I loved it at first because it had upbeat music and there was a wide range in workouts. Eventually I found I got bored and a lot of the movements were weird and didn’t seem to do much. I think others provide more clear instructions and explanations of the movements and how to do them properly.

Trust this community for the real tea on sculpt society! Weird awkward moves and unclear cues from instructors – it’s a pass

  7. Emily says:

I will second essentrics! The subscription via their app is not that expensive and it’s a good, low intensity workout. I have also been enjoying Nicole Pearce pilates and strength training on YouTube. She has a channel and a subscription service but I just do the free ones. Challenging movements but very clearly explained. TBH I don’t love pilates but her beginner classes cleared a lot of things up for me (i.e. how to breath correctly).

I love The Sculpt Society. I signed up during my pregnancy and kept it up for the postpartum workouts (I’m four months pp). I think the program was most effective in restoring pelvic floor strength pp, so if that’s of interest I think it’s really worth a try.

I’m a day late to this thread, and I have no experience with Sculpt Society, but I highly recommend Nike Training Club. It’s a free app, and you can follow a trainer-led program or pick workouts à la carte.

Find an orthopedic urgent care! I am in the Twin Cities but all the major ortho groups have walk-in acute ortho injury hours. I am not a doc, nor do I play one on TV but I highly recommend going that route for any ortho injury. Bonus is that you are also “in” with the group if the injury is severe enough to require further care/follow-up. Ask me how many times my family has used the walk-in clinic …
Also, don’t be surprised if the ‘sprain’ is somehow peri/menopause related. Not kidding, wish I was 😉

  11. Rachel says:

I haven’t done TSS but did melissa wood health pilates workouts for a year. I eventually started doing pilates in-person and realized with the guidance of an instructor that I’d been doing a lot of the moves wrong! which maybe explains some of my back/neck issues. I now do in-person pilates once a week and then a few times a week do exercises my physical therapist gives me.
