It might be easiest to wear black all fall, but let’s see if we can’t bring in a bit of color, shall we?

Left. Sweater // Brooch // Shirt // Jeans // Purse // Shoes
Mix leopard and chartreuse for a bold look for work, brunch, family dinner, or a board meeting. Here, I added a ruffle-collar shirt to pull the look together and give it that chic layered look. The wider leg jeans also give the look a more professional air.
Add the gold brooch on the collar of the sweater. Don’t want to pin the delicate sweater? Free People has a set of small pins that you can scatter across the collar of this shirt, as many or as few as you like.
Lastly, I chose a navy bag because we needed a neutral with the chartreuse and the leopard, but brown would have been boring and black would have been to start.
Style this look with hair up to show off the collar of the shirt and the brooch. And don’t miss the berry-colored tinted lip balm.
Middle. Sweater // Skirt // Shoes // Necklace // Bag
I chose the plum skirt from Reiss because I like purple and chartreuse together. It feels like it might be too much, but when you put it on, it just works. Need a more affordable skirt? This Ann Taylor skirt is worth a look.
I chose a chartreuse necklace with the chartreuse sweater so that we could add a jewelry piece that wouldn’t compete with the other colors and textures in the foundation of the look. Gold would have worked, but it would have felt like a little bit too much. A little forced. This tone-on-tone look gives a softer vibe.
Same for the shoes. Another color would have broken up the look too much, so I stuck to the two-out-of-three rule and chose a plum shoe. If you want a leg covering with this, micro-fishnets work for me.
For styling, wear the hair down. A nude-rose lip would be nice, but make sure to add a bit of contour to the cheeks.
Right. Sweater // Pants // Bracelets // Bag // Shoes
How about all green? Like a celebration of green? Like every shade of green at one time because life is unpredictable and a little chaotic and we should be wearing more happy colors?
These Editor pants from Express are an all time great choice for ladies looking for a nice pant at an affordable price point. I recommend sizing up and tailoring a bit to make them look much more expensive than they are. I love the mix of this emerald green with the chartreuse.
I added these J.Crew hinge bracelets to bring some drama without distraction. And for the shoe, I chose a tortoise to add a bit of texture without overwhelming the look. You could also try these square toe shoes from Maeve.
For this look, wear the hair up or down, however you’re most comfortable. A little bronzer on the cheeks and forehead goes a long way when wearing color. And don’t miss a good coat of mascara.

I don’t know why but chartreuse never looks green to me. It’s a bright burning yellow. Anyone else?
Totally! Me too! Now, I have been diagnosed as colorblind (yay, less than 10% of women are colorblind and always pass it onto their sons – apologies to my two boys) but I think my colorblindness is more about confusing bright/light pinks and oranges… 🙂
I love the Vernica Beard Clutch. Out of my price point, but very inspirational. All of these outfits are exceptional.
I love the suede and faux suede bags. Curious as to how to take care of them? Do they
get ruined in the rain?
There’s a spray called crep.
Thank you !
I’m actually moving to WA next week from SoCal and Crep looks like the perfect solution for protecting my handbags, boots and shoes in the rain!
Have you been in my closet? Or have I just been reading this blog for the last ten years? I have a version of every piece of clothing except for the green sweater – looks like that’s all I’m going to need for fall!
I think I look terrible in chartreuse, but the way you put these outfits together is really inspiring, and I’m trying to learn from you in hopes that I can give my outfits a little more oomph. Thanks!
