The Jumble: September 16, 2025

Sep 16, 2025

This week, suffering from our first daycare virus, exhausted by the news cycle, at a real turning point in my life, I fell into the Internet. It’s so easy to just sit down, open an app, and emerge two hours later wondering how it happened. But while the deep dive may not be the best for my mental health, it is good for the blog content, so that’s something.

Here’s what I found in the sea of entropy that is the Internet this week. Let’s Jumble.

+ My summer slippers are going strong. Now, there’s a cozy version for winter.

+ This one pan lentil dish is still my favorite cold weather meal.

+ I bought this gorgeous <$175 dress for holiday parties (yes, I said holiday).

+ A retiree had a dream to play in the LSU band; he made it happen.

+ Erborian is one of my favorite skincare brands. I just rebought their CC Creme.

+ How do you spot a quality, well-made garment?

+ The collar on this AYR button-up is absolute perfection for work or weekend.

+ This sweet, little tattoo caught my eye.

+ I own this cordless Shark vacuum for quick cleanup and because it empties itself.

+ I Upgrade birthday cupcakes with cool candles.

+ Suffering from September skin (dry, unruly)? This gel is my miracle cure.

+ I’m trying to convince Kyle that we should move onto this ferry boat.

Lastly, I love the community behind this blog, and I’d love to find new ways to strengthen and grow it. So let’s add a new section to The Jumble, a weekly question.

This week’s question is pretty simple: What’s the best thing you found on the Internet recently? Can be a social media post, a podcast episode, a lipstick, whatever you spotted and thought, yes, this.

tips for relieving constipation during pregnancy lol. and that’s the funnest thing I found on the internet in a week.

    • Belle says:

I drank 30oz of water with miralax in a Stanley every day with a splash of cranberry juice. Strangely, and this is a little TMI, but I had become dependent upon laxative teas prior to pregnancy, and being unable to drink them during pregnancy (cramping of muscles is not limited to the gut), actually healed my digestion.

I LOVE the Jumble and so glad it’s a reg. post. Let’s see what is best thing I have found on the internet recently…..I guess it can mean from any site? This Tobi Midi dress from Anthro. is perfection…I bought the denim a month ago and yesterday ordered the brown and white checked…it has pockets, flattering on the waist, covered buttons and some sparkly things at the top but they blend in…do not stand out….I will say I had to size up due to a large bust size but otherwise fits well.

Best thing I found on the internet recently: Dr Jessica Knurick on Instagram. She’s a food scientist that factually (and calmly) combats a lot of the food-related misinformation and fear mongering out there right now.

    • Shannon Cary says:

      Agree. She’s great.

    • AnnSometimesInKC says:

Thank you and thank you Abra. I just started following her because of this post.

    • Samantha says:

      Same. She is so great!

    • Natalie G says:

      Love her.

    • Alex says:

Nah. Knurick is incredibly condescending at best, hateful at worst. She is consumed with dragging any conservative perspective on health. She goes so far as to criticize eliminating sodas from food stamps, ignoring the very obvious reasons this is a good idea, just because it is a conservative idea. She dismisses any differing perspective by whining that anyone who disagrees with her is “ignorant.” No thanks.

      • Belle says:

I’ve posted this comment because I don’t censor comments unless they’re threatening/violent/doxxing. Someone shared an account they liked. You are, of course, permitted to offer a differing perspective, maybe by sharing an account that aligns with your beliefs, but I’m not sure the tone serves your argument.

This is a fashion blog comment section, not Twitter.

Best thing I’ve found on the internet recently was your recommendation for The Carpool Detectives. Repeating it here for anyone who missed your original recommendation. It was *excellent* as an audiobook: a compelling true crime story without being gruesome or dealing with cruelty to children (lately, I just can’t!). I loved the meta nature of this story about how the mystery was solved.

  5. KV says:

Harvard Business Review article about loneliness at work. I didn’t really think I was suffering from “loneliness” per se, but it really resonated with me. I’ve created “frustration Fridays,” and it has become so successful that my boss asked me to invite some other people she manages that aren’t even on our team.

Create and share team narratives—such as moments of grit, missteps, or breakthroughs—at key moments: onboarding, all-hands, launches, or celebrations. Shared stories help people make meaning together and reinforce team identity. Create simple rituals like “Wins & Fails Fridays” that normalize reflection and learning together. And explain the reasoning behind decisions—transparency strengthens trust and reinforces a shared sense of direction.

Dazzle dry nail system is a game changer for at home manis….Olive and June could never!!!

I found that browsing pet Halloween costumes on Amazon was a helpful way to make my 9 year-old giggle and take her out of a stress spiral. “Why did they dress their cat like the pope?!?”

    • Mary says:

My town does a Spooky Pooch Parade every October, so if your daughter has suggestions for a good person + dog costume please share!

I need something that comes in plus sizes and my dog is a 20 pound black poodly mix.

    • LK says:

I work for the federal government (for now! Who knows how much longer I’ll have my job!) and my 10-year-old has been pretty stressed out about that and about school stuff. Your idea is awesome—I’ll have to try it the next time he gets really anxious.

  8. Sarah says:

Leanne Hainsby-Aldis’s new weekly newsletter called The Leanne Weekly. The newsletter arrives on Tuesdays. She’s put out 5 newsletters so far, and I’ve enjoyed every single one and have sent portions to various friends each week.
She’s also one of my favorite Peloton instructors.

    • Sarah says:

I’ll also add that CapHillStyle is always one of my favorite things on the internet for many many reasons. And I love the idea of fostering community in the comments like this.

  9. Heather says:

Therapist reminding me that grief can we viewed two ways –

    – grieving in terms of something lost, i.e. a loss
    – grieving things that did not turn out the way you had hoped / things you did not get in life and not tangible things (not a true loss, but something that didn’t happen as how had hoped(

  10. Meredith says:

I’m really enjoying the ‘Ask Lisa’ parenting podcast featuring Dr. Lisa Damour, and am a long time fan of the ‘Breaking Beauty’ podcast.

  11. Kirstin Short says:

Best thing on the internet recently: our local library’s card catalog. Through it I learned that our library carries the DVDs for Madam Secretary (the TV show with Tea Leoni). My son, interested in geography and politics, and I were watching the show together when it disappeared from Netflix. Now, thanks to our library we have started up where we left off in the middle of season 3.
And it’s been soothing to my public servant soul to watch a show where the main character is focused on doing the right thing and not just winning.

  12. Kate says:

I discovered simon_hennessy on instagram – he’s a comedian who does great characters, including a ‘french rapper’ who sends me because I had to listen to so much French rap in uni classes and he’s so accurate. You might also like conorjanda, whose Mum was a lawyer and Dad was a stay at home Dad growing up.

    • PNWJD says:

Omg I just watched a few of these, so so good. I’m dying at “Kendrick LaMarseillaise”. Forwarding to my French friends immediatement.

  13. Devon says:

our foster dog got adopted from someone who saw the social media posts I made for him! I don’t know if that counts as something I found but they found us! He’d been at the shelter for two years and was only with us a month!

  14. K says:

Best thing I found recently is the Canadian cover band Dwayne Gretzky. They put out their version of you Can Call Me Al by Paul Simon recently. So fun. https://www.instagram.com/reel/DOge-gTCO7h/?igsh=MWc4c2p5ZWpsZjlhYg==

  15. C says:

Was excited to see the author of The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi announce the sequel is coming! It won’t be released until May, but it’s something exciting to look forward to.
Following authors I love on social media generally has been a bright spot. It’s fascinating to get a peek into their research, inspiration, and the writing process, and I stay up-to-date on their releases. And as a bonus, they typically aren’t posting about $500 serums you “can’t live without” (I need waaaaaaay less of that in my feed!).

    • Nicole says:

I am so excited for this too! I also recommend following her and other authors you like. Their book recommendations tend to be 10/10. She has introduced me to so many good authors.

  16. Samantha says:

The Scary Mommy post discussing how siblings that have the same parents can have very different childhoods/parents. It’s something I knew deep down, but it was really interesting to see it in writing.

  17. Isolde Varga says:

Nice roundup — I always enjoy these little discovery lists. Recently I found a one-pan lentil stew that’s become my go-to for busy nights; recipe was simple and made great leftovers. Also curious — which of the items you mentioned would you actually recommend splurging on vs skip?

  18. Allison Hancock says:

The best thing I’ve found on the internet recently is Jameela Jamil’s podcast, “wrong turns”. It’s hilarious, a little raunchy and doesn’t take itself seriously. It’s great when you need a break from news podcasts.

  19. Susan says:

My favorite thing on the internet these days is the IG handle snlvids. It’s old SNL videos and one showed up on my feed the other day that made me laugh until I literally cried. It was Kristin Wiig in a fake commercial for cold medicine and her husband (Will Ferrell) is doing the “scream sneeze” that we all know men of a certain age do. She is trying to advertise the cold medicine and he keeps doing the ridiculously loud full-body sneeze and it just hit so close to home for me, I couldn’t stop laughing.

  20. The best thing I found on the internet recently was a Boden-style navy blue blouse with ruffle neckline on Amazon. I had AI scan my pic from Boden for a visual search on Amazon. It found the exact same blouse with same model – identical – and Amazon was 50% less.

  21. Amanda says:

Visiting DC, driving from Fredericksburg to DC this morning on a rainy day, needed a place that was 1) indoors and 2) where I could park our rental SUV (I am not a city driver). Googled “toddler Alexandria”, discovered Scramble. If you are looking for a space for a kid to run and play it was absolutely awesome. Great space to play, very clean, actually tasty kid-friendly and adult food at the cafe. $15 for the two of us. A dream.

When the world feels like it’s on fire I just want to be cozy and stay inside my house

  23. Kim says:

@bdylanhollis on IG. He makes vintage recipes like lettuce cookies (awful) and manwich cornbread (surprisingly delightful) with a kind of goofy sense of humor — like a 1940s radio broadcaster. I have legitimately laughed out loud several times!

    • Belle says:

There’s an account called Cooking for Congress that makes weird recipes loved by historical Americans. And let me tell you, I’ve never felt worse for FDR than when I saw what Eleanor made him eat.
