Picks from the American Eagle ShopMy Sale

Sep 12, 2025

The funny thing about being 40 in 2025 is that somehow you can shop at Chico’s and American Eagle in the same day and find something you love at both retailers. It’s like living in a bizarro world where your age no longer matters once you enter the mall. ShopMy is hosting a discount code for purchases through the site today, so here are the AE pieces that caught my eye. If they catch yours too, use code SHOPMY15 to save a bit.

This super slouchy waffle tee looks perfect for a plane flight or Saturday couch rotting.  Comes in several colors.  Would look amazing with leggings under a chore jacket.

This Big Hug sweatshirt caught my eye instantly. Nothing I love on a Sunday afternoon in the winter better than an oversized sweatshirt. Where was this oversized sweatshirt when Sloane was still in the Baby Bjorn?

In high school, I had a pair of extremely wide leg Express jeans that I still think about. These A-Line Fit Jeans remind me so much of them. Also I appreciate a mid-rise jean.

I keep thinking about this oversized Dolman Sleeve Trench. It has serious Mary Kate and Ashley vibes. It also comes in tan, but this olive strikes me as the winner.

I ordered this Shaker Stitch foldover sweater because I can’t resist a stripe. I am hoping it looks as good with black wide legs as I am hoping it will. I really need a medium-dressy sweater to wear to work on causal days.

{ShopMy hosts sale codes for different retailers. I’ve declined to participate in most because the retailers didn’t sell things I thought you would like, because I didn’t find anything I would like, but there were a few casual pieces at AE that I thought were worth a look, so I accepted this one. ShopMy paid a bonus of a couple hundred dollars for me to promote the sale code.}

    I am chuckling at your opening line bc in my town, the Chico’s and AE are literally right next to each other and I’ve been known to pop into both. It really is like traveling between dimensions!

    Could you do a post on ‘medium casual’ sweaters (love the phrasing!). I have a lot of ‘casual’ fall outdoor gatherings and I’m struggling for tops. Sweatshirts/crew necks in general look terrible on me (short neck and small frame) so I have a rough time finding something nice but not at the level of my formal wool/silk blend office sweaters.

    I appreciate these posts for many reasons. One of them is that I can feel grateful that my clothes from 2002 still fit me, I still own some of them, they’re in good condition, and I don’t have to spend money to be considered acceptable looking in public. Also, is it me, or do so many of the newer versions just seem… frumpy? I am sticking to my mostly classic, timeless styles so I don’t have to buy new. (Read, spend money to be cool, and feed the consumption beast!) I do especially like that striped top at the end – those long sleeves have a lengthening, slimming, flattering effect, plus the styling at the neck is fun and interesting.
