Friday Outfit: Transition in White Denim

Sep 5, 2025

It’s hot. It’s smoky. The pool is open for one more weekend. But, yes, Abra, let’s talk about sweaters.

I know, it sounds bonkers. But next month, you will be glad you bought those basics now. Here we go.

The Jeans // I spotted this look on Pinterest and knew immediately that we were going to need to talk about white denim for fall again. If you are only wearing white denim in the summer, do not mothball them for cold weather. Mixed with sweaters, blazers and layered looks, white denim looks crisp and stylish. It is an IT GIRL look.

I’m only wearing wider leg styles right now because I am most comfortable physically and mentally in them. I love, love, love Paige’s Anessa jeans — they come in white or ecru, for those who want a toned down white for fall. Need a slimmer style? Let’s try a bootcut before we go skinny.

Love your skinnies? I’m not hating, wear what makes your mind and body feel good. These slim straight legs from Joe’s are fabulous.

Need a less expensive style? These Abercrombie’s are phenomenal on the body, but if you’re over 17, you may need to size up. I did.

Plus-size, petite, tall? Land’s End is the brand you should not be sleeping on. The inclusive respect that other brands pretend to give, Land’s End gives. Their clothes come in styles for every woman. These jeans run up to size 26, and are available in multiple lengths. Who else is giving multiple lengths? Do not sleep on this brand just because you think they might be a snore the 90s forgot. I buy so many basics here, don’t be derisive about utility.

The Sweater // I want olive and white to be my fall palette. It is so fresh and chic. Modern and versatile. I am also in love with the fresher greens, like this Big Sur color from Quince, which gives hints of teal.

This La Ligne Marin sweater haunts my dreams. I have put it in my cart so many times. I need to buy it or I need to block this site. Please be advised that I find the brand runs a little small.

Need a more affordable option? Our friends at Tuckernuck have you covered. Plus-size? Old Navy has you covered. Also in tall and petite.

Accessories // The shoes were a lift for me. White shoes just seem like a recipe for disaster. But they are a fashion forward look, so I wanted to show a pair. Nordstrom Rack has these point-toe Mary Janes that fill the need.

Want a more useful alternative? How about these pretty, subtle ballet flats from Everlane in a peachy-nude? Or, for me, I would likely wear my Rothy’s big cat print flats here.

These sunglasses from Quince went in my shopping bag the moment I saw them. The shape is cool, the wire rims are fierce and they will do an awesome job hiding my undereye circles at Sloane’s 8:00AM gymnastics class. Anna Wintour was just a tired mother with bad eyesight masquerading as a trendsetter.

The bag is a deeply discounted Veronica Beard Goodies Bag. I sent it to Kyle for my Christmas list. And I wanted an oval watch to match the inspo image, so I chose this one with a cool band.

The Styling // Yes, the bun. It’s perfect. This bun tutorial is best for long hair, but it will work on shoulder length hair if you use pomade to smooth flyaways and a bobby pin or two. And the folded style looks so chic and cool.

As for the makeup, natural is best here. But I would definitely carry a tinted chapstick to give the lips a little life. Maybe it’ll make me look more alive while chasing my three year old. Probably not though. That’s a job for caffeine. I love being a Mom, but I am so jealous of the 27-year-olds at the park. What must it be like to keep up with your child?!

Have a great weekend.

I’m having to refresh my memory. What shoes do we wear with a bootcut?

In 2011, I probably would’ve worn a ballet flat and a circle scarf. So I’m doubting this is exactly what I need in 2025.

YES to this entire post. I am not a mom who wears white pants but otherwise all in. My question is whether you find the Anessa jeans to last well. I bought the Paige Cindy jeans this winter, wore them once a week, and they developed holes in 5 months. I cannot justify that much $ on jeans that fall apart-need that for workwear now that I’m in 5 days a week.

I bought my 1st pair of white jeans (I’m 41). The Old Navy OG Straight are perfect on my very pear shaped 5’1″ frame.

Abra, do you buy your regular size or go up or down in your Rothy’s Point IIs?

This looks great! Love all the jeans options too.
