Back to School: We Deserve New Bras

Aug 18, 2025

Another summer has come and gone. My first back-to-school list sits in my inbox. Sloane needs lunchboxes, rain boots, a backpack, and so much more. The new school year also provides an opportunity to restock her basics so that I’m never without clean leggings or a cute sweater. And that got me thinking: Why don’t Moms get back to school shopping?

After all, we have basics that wear — we need to replace our foundational pieces, restock our underwear drawers, and spruce up our shoe shelves. So why shouldn’t we think of this time of year as a chance to refresh our own wardrobes?

This week, we’re going back to school shopping. And we’re starting with our underwear drawers ( because some of my bras are older than my child), so let’s get started.

Since Sloane was born, my bra size has been constantly in flux.  As a result, I’ve purchased more bras than I care to admit.  The only up side is that it has given me a chance to test out a lot of different brands and styles.  Here are the three I love the most.

Natori Feathers Plunge T-Shirt Bra // This Natori bra with a plunge front and lace trim is pretty and comfortable, a rare combination.  It lifts, separates, and can be worn with multiple different tops.  I have yet to meet a woman who didn’t buy it and love it.

Soma Lightly Lined Balconette // I bought this Soma bra because it was $15.  I was on a business trip, forgot a second bra, and swooped into the mall to find something in a hurry.  A cheap thrill was just what I needed.  I did not expect to love it so much.  I wish its pretty mesh counterpart was currently available in my size.  I am impatiently waiting for the restock.

Eby Wireless Bralette // This Eby bra is by far and away the most boring bra that I have ever owned.  It looks like a cropped tank top.  It is the least sexy thing on the planet, but sometimes, you don’t need sex appeal, you need the guarantee that a wire will not poke you in the ribs.  And for those days when you just need an all-day comfortable bra, this is the one.

If you have a bra that you love, please leave it in the comments.  Especially if you have a specialty size or another concern that makes a good fit tough to find, drop a line below.

How do you find the Eby bra compares to True&Co? The similar one from True&Co is my go-to wfh bra but it’s a tiny bit pricier than the Eby.

    • Belle says:

I like both. The Eby bra has more material. It looks like a thin sports bra or cropped workout top. The T&C bra is more like a bra.

  2. LJojo says:

LOL…I have always “craved” new underwear at BTS time because my Mom restocked all of mine at that time of year. I am in my 60’s now and it has remained a life long tradition Checking out Soma today.

I am a 34H and need minimizing as well as support. Most bra brands haven’t worked for me, including Natori. The exception is Chantelle. Their minimizers wear like iron. They are also the only wireless bra that works for me. In a pinch, Le Mystere has worked, especially their sports bras which allowed me to finally take up running.

    • DW says:

I’m also a 34H and I’ve had good luck with British brands, freya and fantasie (although, be aware their sizing is different). I also really like the wacoal la femme underwire tshirt bra. It’s the one I wear most often and doesn’t drive me bonkers during a 10 hour workday.
For sports bras, I swear by the panache underwire sports bra. It’s the only one I’ve ever worn that actually works. Be warned none of these are cute. But they do keep me wrangled and relatively comfortable.

    • TheLOOP says:

I have two underwire swimsuits from Fantasie that are great! I think I haven’t been able to figure out the right size in Freya and Panache but will give them a shot.

    • Emma says:

+1 for Chantelle. The Norah is my all-time favorite.

  4. Kim says:

I love the enbliss wireless bra from Soma. Lifts, separates, and is really comfortable (at least from my 34C perspective). I also had a good experience being fit for bras at Soma; it had been 15 years and 2 kids since my last fitting.

    • Jennifer says:

This is my favourite bra, too. And, I too had a great in-person fitting experience there, after having 2 kids!

I get the Enbliss that has the option to hook the straps together in the back.

      • Amanda says:

Here to third the enbliss – my favorites are the racerbacks and the convertibles, I feel like they offer better support. Mine are probably due to retire (they wash well but I’ve found the sides end up having the sticky binding come through, eventually) – and they’re having their $30 sale so it’s probably a good time for a refresh!

  5. Claire says:

I put my favorite bra on a quarterly subscription, so I’m automatically sent a new bra every three months. Lifechanging.

  6. Emily says:

I love taking my growing teenage girls to Nordstrom to be measured by the professionals around this time.

  7. PB says:

I don’t know the name of the styles but the full coverage unlined underwire bras by fantasie and freya have served me well. Expensive but I think there are no inexpensive options for larger cup sizes that are really viable and durable.

  8. Cheryl says:

Another Chantelle fan here. I too need a minimizer and support, my favorite is the C Magnifique style.
It beats out my former Wacoal favorites. They are more expensive–$80 instead of $50 roughly–but we get what we pay for, and Chantelle is worth it. Care directions say to hand wash, but mine do fine on cold water delicate cycle each in its own mesh bag, air dry. I buy mine on sale. Even Trump tariffs won’t deter me.

  9. Laura says:

I am very small-chested and I have been loving Lulalu’s wireless bras!

  10. Anonomom says:

Have you tried the Neiwa Barely Zero Spaghetti Strap Bra?

Curious about how that the Eby compares.

    Thank

  11. Kate says:

I’m a 38DD who can’t bear an underwire since COVID, and I swear by the Wacoal Elevated Allure wireless bra for everyday. It’s both pretty and comfortable! I also like the Chantelle Norah lace wireless and just altered one of my older ones to be cross back for under tank tops.
