The Range: Some Transition Pieces

Aug 11, 2025

It’s mid-August, the temperatures here are finally summer like, but there’s no point in shopping for now. I need clothes that will transition into October. Here’s how my list is shaping up.

A T-Shirt Maxi Dress // This ribbed t-shirt dress from Talbot’s has a fantastic color.  This steely blue blends well into any season.  I’d wear it now with sandals and call it a day.  In six weeks, I’d wear it under this cardigan in the same steely blue.

This Spanx t-shirt maxi dress in a gorgeous green is on discount (also in plus).   Frank & Eileen has their chic Harper dress with a raw hem in several colors.  For something affordable, try Abercrombie (I own this and love it.).

A Silk Tee // The ultimate piece for the working woman’s wardrobe is a short sleeve silk tee.  I owned this one from Cuyana for years.  The longer length in back let’s you tuck it in without worrying about it staying tucked.

MM LaFleur has a great washable silk shirt.  Everlane has a similar style with a button front, so you can get a v-neck look.  And if you need something in the <$100 price range, Quince sells a silk tee.

Open Work Sweater // I’ve already shared this Varley sweater (because it’s one of my favorites), but the Madewell sweater above takes open-work to a new level.  The variations in the weave pattern are so chic.  Prefer a cardigan?  LOFT has you covered.

I am a die hard Cuyana silk tee wearer, and recently bought this version (in green). It’s much shorter and boxier than the high low version in the photo featured here. I have several of the high low version and they are my favorite shirt. This version is still a beautiful garment but know that it is different.

For the long maxi t-shirt dresses, what styles of shoes are you thinking for fall/early winter with them? I love the idea of wearing them into the cooler weather with a jacket or sweater but am stumped on shoes. Thanks!
